Meghan’s Resolution for 2009

As we’re now in the second week of 2009, I have to wonder: Will I ever finish the games of 2008? These past few months, a slew of critically-acclaimed releases hit gamers’ wallets hard. Luckily, Fallout 3, Gears of War 2, and Fable II landed in my lap free of charge, but Santa didn’t leave Left 4 Dead or Mirror’s Edge under the tree like I asked. Still, that leaves me with three top-rated games. And you know how many I’ve finished?

Zero!

I appall even myself.

That doesn’t mean I haven’t been playing games. A couple of oldies have kept me entertained as of late. But that’s no excuse. Honestly, shame on me. Thus, it’s my resolution to get off my rear end (and back on it, I suppose) and finish at least two of the aforementioned games. The Zombie Apocalypse, a couple hundred ugly-ass Locusts, and some pretty fable-y things can wait no longer. And besides, I’ve been itching to blow up Megaton.

Mitch’s Resolution for 2009

Like Meghan, I too intend to clean up the mess of games I’ve left behind. In 2009, I want to finish all the games I’m dying to finish. However, I’m not talking Fallout or Prince of Persia – I’ve long since left them behind. I’m going back a few years to tackle the embarrassingly tall stack of games that I never got around to,or simply didn’t have time to wrap up.

In no particular order, I am aiming to complete Yakuza, Yakuza 2, Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War, Company of Heroes, Advent Rising, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, Skate, Overlord, and Valkyria Chronicles.

I am hoping to work my way up to the end of 2008 by the end of this year… so I can catch up on 09-ers in 2010! I’d resolve to complete more games, considering I dropped almost every major holiday release on its face before I came anywhere near its conclusion, but my problem is that I haven’t started many of the ones I missed out on.

I’ve got a hell of a lot of work to do to dig myself out of this hole.

Let me know if Nuts and Bolts is any good. I was very fond of the original, back in the day.

If you end up liking Valkyria as much as Mr. Riley, I may end up buying a PS3 just for that. I’m starting to actively lust after it, which always ends with me spending money I don’t have.

Meghan: I was faced with the same trio of unfinished games at the same time. I recommend tackling Fable II, Gears 2, and Fallout 3 in that order.

Mitch: In addition to Overlord and flirting with Culdcept Saga, I am still not through the single-player campaign of Need For Speed: Most Wanted from 2005, and I still consider that to be a game I actively want to finish…

Need for Speed stopped being interesting to me after Underground 2. From there, it’s been nothing but Burnout for me. I did, however, really enjoy DiRT, which mixed sim-y stuff without being overwhelming. It was a great primer for Baja.
